How to Dry Garlic And Make Garlic Powder
Garlic is one of the essential spices that adds flavor to dishes. Dried garlic slices are easy to use and can be stored for a long time. What’s more, dried garlic flakes can also be processed into garlic powder for different use. In this artilce we will see how to dry garlic and make garlic powder step by step.
Step 1: Separate The Garlic Clove
If your garlic comes with whole garlic clove, first need to separate the garlic. If you make batches, we advise you to use an automatic garlic clove splitter instead of manual labor. You only need to put the garlic clove into the splitter then you can get the complete garlic granules. This garlic clove splitting machine can process 500kg/h garlic. If your garlic comes in individual pieces, you can skip this step.
Step 2:Remove The Garlic Peel
Then peel the garlic. Here we recommend using a dry type garlic peeling machine, which uses vacuum pressure to quickly remove the garlic skin. This garlic peeler can perfectly solve the problem of peeling garlic
Step 3: Cut Garlic Into Slice
Use a knife to cut the garlic into 1/8 to 1/4-inch slices. To make slicing easier and more efficient, you can use an automatic garlic slicer. The garlic slicer can easily cut garlic or ginger into thin slices of different thicknesses of 1-7mm. The thickness is uniform and the cutting speed is fast. The capacity of this garlic slicer can be reached to 500 kg/h. Check the below video of the garlic slicer machine work.
Step 4: How to Dry Garlic In a Food Dehydrator
First, choose a dehydrator. A food dehydrator is very suitable for making dehydrated garlic. Of course, if you don’t have a dehydrator, you can use an oven instead.
Place the garlic slices or garlic granules evenly on the tray, remember not to pile them up too much, and leave gaps to allow hot air to circulate. Set the dehydration temperature to 150°F, and the dehydration time is generally 6-8 hours. The dehydration time is related to the thickness of the garlic slices and the temperature of the dehydrator. Then turn on the switch and the dehydrator starts working.
During the dehydration process, you can turn on the dehydrator every 2 hours to observe the state of the garlic slices until they are completely dry. Once dehydration is complete, remove the garlic slices and allow to cool to room temperature. After fully cooling, you can check the garlic dryness. If the garlic pieces can be broken easily and are crispy, it means drying is complete. If not, please dry them again.
Step 5: Grind Dehydrated Garlic Into Powder
Put the dried garlic particles or garlic slices into a food blender or garlic grinder to make powder. The garlic grinder is easier to use, and the fineness of the garlic powder can be adjusted by changing the screen. The screen size range is 20-120mesh.
Step 6: Store Garlic Powder
Put garlic powder into a sealed bag or jar, and store it in a cool place at room temperature to avoid moisture and high temperatures, which can affect the taste and nutritional value of garlic.
